06/09/2023 /  UAB Juodeliai is the biggest sponsor of a now traditional MO exhibition in Marijampolė

MO returns to Marijampolė! This autumn, all residents and visitors of Marijampolė are invited to see fragments of the MO Museum exhibition “Mekas Winks Better”.

The exhibition opened on 6 September where the guests had a tour with artist and curator of exhibitions Vytenis Burokas. All residents interested in art can visit the exhibition in Marijampolė Cultural Centre until 10 October.

Poet and avantgarde filmmaker Jonas Mekas (1922-2019) had an incredible knack for being where inconsequential daily encounters would soon become part of history. Mekas’ encounters with the stars of pop culture and the art world were not only recounted in his films, but also in still shots taken from those films, which Mekas then displayed as separate stand-alone exhibits in the late twentieth century. A portion of these images have now been acquired by MO Museum and are displayed in the exhibition “Mekas Winks Better”. In the photographs exhibited at Marijampolė Cultural Centre visitors will have the opportunity to spot a number of prominent figures, including Yoko Ono, John Lennon, Andy Warhol, Nam June Paik, Elvis Presley, Jurgis Mačiūnas, etc.

The partnership between the wood processing company UAB Juodeliai and MO Museum, which started in 2019, allows to smoothly organise exhibition trips to Marijampolė and create favourable conditions for visiting exhibitions for the local community.
